Former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has given insights as to why he retired from football aged just 31 years old.

Daniel Agger has explained that he retired from football after being forced to take painkillers for years.

The retired Danish professional footballer and tattoo artist who played as a central defender for Brondby, Liverpool and captained the Denmark national team was named the 2007 and 2012 Danish footballer of the year.

He represented his nation, Denmark at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and also at the UEFA Euro 2012, captaining his country at the latter.

The Danish defender spent eight years at Liverpool from 2006 to 2014 before heading back to his first club Brondby after falling out with then boss Brendan Rodgers.

The 32-year-old has revealed how collapsing on the pitch caused him to finally give the game up.

The Sun report that Agger was heading to FC Copenhagen on the Brondby team bus when a mixture of arthritis pills and a caffeine drink meant he failed to remember any of the first half. (more…)

Premier League side Liverpool remain desperate to fix the defence that slowed the team down last term.

Klopp had more in and delivered so much hope within a short time. After failures at two finals, the German promised more in the new season.

The team started banging hot but different loopholes were revealed in time. The club chose to patch it up and it negated all the recent beautiful strides. Before Sadio Mane went for the African Nations Cup, there was an opportunity to add depth. The Alberto Moreno issue could have been better handled and James Milner freed to add cushion when needed. Yes, the injury situation affected many things but better man management and planning could have ensured a better finish.

With the Champions League and local commitments in play, the Reds are hoping to get a full back and a top central defender. Joel Matip and DevjanLovren are decent already but the team needs more. Like former skipper Daniel Agger recently said, Matip has quickly adapted since joining the side but he needs to maintain consistency for each game. (more…)

Jurgen Klopp comments on West Ham United

Jurgen Klopp says that Liverpool with its annihilation of West Ham United has shown to everyone that they can soak the pressure as well as any other team playing in the top flight.

Because of the waste of a penalty by Liverpool in the previous match, the critics were starting to doubt if the Reds had got the temperament to play under intense pressure situations.

But, Klopp reckons whatever doubts that were there would have gone out of the window now after an absolutely clinical performance by the Merseyside club at the Olympic Stadium.

As per Klopp, he himself never had any doubts over the temperament of his players because his players have earned more than 70 points this season and they couldn’t have earned so many points without playing some fantastic Football.

Klopp opines that pressure is something one can’t get away from. It will always be there in life, but, what one must do is to overlook the negative aspects of pressure and just exploit the positive aspects of it which his players did in the West Ham game. (more…)

Premier League side Liverpool are set to face a test in their summer transfer plans with Mamadou Sakho and Daniel Sturridge.

The club of recent seems like one that buys players but rarely use them in games before selling them off.

Liverpool were ranked the most commercial success in terms of transfers from 2010 mainly from selling their places for premium prices. With business not as good of recent, there is a test of how the club would handle its biggest assets in Sakho and Sturridge as they fall off the pecking order.

Coach Jurgen Klopp could take a leave from his counterpart at Old Trafford who negotiated for players to leave at the best prices. Klopp’s negotiating skills would come to bear when he decides to sell off Sturridge. The Three Lions star was the starting forward late last year, and he netted 21 league goals in his full Premier League season. (more…)

Former Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is confident that his former club can continue with their impressive form this season that has already made them a title contender.

Unlike last season, the Reds have made a head start to the Premier League campaign this year, sitting comfortably in fourth place after just eight matches so far. The Reds who reached two cup finals last campaign are much of a better squad this season and are currently challenging for every silver.

The 0-0 draw with Manchester United was the second time this campaign that Jürgen Klopp’s men have failed to score in all competition. It is this startling performance that has drawn the attention of their former defender Agger who says he has high hopes for this Liverpool team this season.

Here is what the former Liverpool told Liverpool.com:

“It’s going well so far. To be honest, I have some expectations this year, especially after last year. Jürgen is looking good for the club; I think he’s doing well. He has some great ideas and the way he talks to the media, everything, I like.”s (more…)
