PLAYERS WHO HAD A MOMENT OF MAGIC

Football is a game of moments. Players like Messi, Ronaldo, Lewandowski have performed at the peak all through their career. You can always rely on them to turn the game around. While some other players come up in times of adversity, step up to the plate, deliver the goods and put their names into football history forever?

Here we take a look at players who stepped up and delivered the goods for their team. The one-time heroes:

Adrian

Alisson was the keeper that was in goal when Liverpool won the Champion league. The Brazilian replaced Loris Karius. The German was responsible for the Red’s defeat in the same showpiece a year ago. Alisson delivered the trophy a year later. He was expected to be in goal for the European super cup. But injuries would deny him. Adrian came in and he was impressive as the Reds won on penalty against fellow premier league rival Chelsea. Adrian stopped Tammy Abraham’s kick, and he became a cult hero with the club.

Federico Macheda

Manchester United were behind 2-1 at home to Aston Villa in the League, the Red Devils title challenge was beginning to slip.

Cristiano Ronaldo equalized in the 80th minute, but 17-year-old substitute Federico Macheda would have the final say. He got a fine turn just outside the area giving him a very cute angle to shoot. He placed a cool finish in the 93rd minute. The Red Devils faithfuls will never forget Macheda for that single moment of brilliance.

Daniel Agger

Liverpool faced Chelsea in the Champions League semi-final. With the Reds 1-0 down from the first leg, Agger swept home a well-worked free kick routine to level the scores. The Dane had been given a tough game against Didier Drogba at Stamford Bridge, but he was superb here, man of the match no less, in repelling a frantic Chelsea attack. The score would remain 1-0 after extra time, with Liverpool progressing on penalties.

Eder

Portugal’s roller coaster run in the Euro 2016 landed them in the final against host France. The magnitude of the task ahead of Portugal will get even harder as they lost top scorer Cristiano Ronaldo to an early injury. The game was goalless after 90 minutes. Eder was introduced and he scored the only goal that gave Portugal their first international trophy.
