Liverpool defender Daniel Agger claims that the club should not be worried about the results of Chelsea and Manchester city if they are to lift the first league title for almost three decades. Liverpool have the capability to become the first team outside the likes of Manchester United, city, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal and Chelsea to have lifted the league title. Even though they have 18 league titles to their name, Liverpool have never won the Premier league. They are close to achieving this aim after leading the table with five matches remaining.
Ahead of the home match against Manchester city this weekend, Agger says that Liverpool should not be pressurised by the results of title rivals like Chelsea and city. Instead, they should focus on getting three points from their matches. None of the players at Liverpool – apart from a few like Kolo Toure – have the experience of winning the league. This is in sharp contrast to the likes of Chelsea and city, who have several players in the ranks to have won league titles in several different countries. Agger has been used as a substitute more often than not this season due to the impressive partnership of Martin Skrtel and Sakho.
“We can’t afford to worry about other teams. Manchester City are a squad full of outstanding players with an excellent manager and are a club who have been building for a number of years. Chelsea have some top, experienced players and a world-class manager and if I spent my time worrying about our rivals and what they have got I’d be wasting my energy. We are very calm and focused on what our job is and for me it is about the next training session,” said Agger.
The defender has made just 18 appearances in the league this season and scored one goal.
