CHAMPIONS LEAGUE TARGET

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has stated that the target of the club is to win the Champions league, which is something that they did in 2005. Liverpool are one of the prestigious clubs in this tournament having won it an illustrious five times in their history. However, they have been unable to play in this competition after having failed to finish in the top four for the last four years. The signing of players like Kolo Toure in the summer appears to have worked in favour of Liverpool, as they are currently second in the table with the Christmas fixtures around the corner.

Touré is an experienced player in both Premier league and Champions league after having experienced it with Arsenal and Manchester City. He is confident that Liverpool can qualify for the top four this season, while their target will be to win the competition itself. The Ivory Coast international missed out on the opportunity to lift the trophy when he was at Arsenal, as his team lost in the final to Barcelona in 2006. He is keen to win this trophy for the first time in his career and he has revealed that the move to Liverpool was made with this thought in mind.

“That’s why I came to Liverpool, I knew I would have the chance to play the Champions League again. We have started well in our target to go as far as we can and then try and win this trophy. The Champions League is an amazing tournament to play in, and to be able to play that again with Liverpool will be fantastic. Honestly, for me, I played a final with Arsenal against Barcelona, I was 15 mins from the title,” said Toure.

The defender has been a first-team regular for Brendan Rodgers after having signed on a free transfer.
