Liverpool defender Daniel Agger has said that his central defensive partner Martin Skrtel has been the best player for Liverpool this season. Liverpool have had an ordinary season by any standards. The arrival of legend Kenny Dalglish has done little to inspire the players to reach the champions league position. Liverpool are currently in the seventh place in the table, with almost no hope of making it into the top four. Defeats suffered at the hands of QPR, Wigan athletic, Arsenal, and Tottenham have wrecked their hopes of qualifying for the champions league after a long time.
However, one of the bright aspects of the Liverpool season so far has been Martin Skrtel, who has been a constant presence at the back for the Merseyside club. He has been able to keep out Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher out of the first team action. Daniel Agger reckons that he has been the best player for Liverpool this season and will certainly deserve the vote from him for this regard. The 27-year-old defender has been present in all of the matches for Liverpool this season, while he also scored the winning goal against Cardiff city in the Carling cup final. He has been an inspirational force in helping Liverpool win their first major trophy after six seasons.
“Martin, without a doubt. I don’t think there is any other choice. He has been so consistent. I’m not sure how many years he has been here but he’s improved every season. This year he has become better and better. I think in most games he has been our man of the match,” Agger said in the matchday programme. Martin Skrtel has missed only two of the 30 matches Liverpool have played in the league this season. He has also helped Liverpool to the third best defensive record in the league.
