LIVERPOOL REMAIN A WORK IN PROGRESS

The signing of Coach Jurgen Klopp was met with so much joy by Liverpool fans, and well wishers.

Klopp has given the Reds squad a winning mentality, hope and the ability to dare to dream. Playing in two finals in his first tenure resuscitated a dying side under Brendan Rodgers. However, they remain a work in progress.

Liverpool is set to meet with Premier League defending champions Leicester City after the international break, and the encounter promises to be as exciting as their last show against Tottenham Hotspur. The Reds would need to bring their A game, as their opponents would not be easy to get past, and dropping so much points early in the season doesn’t end well. After former coach Rodgers allowed veteran Daniel Agger to leave, Klopp allowed Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure leave as well. His signing Ragnar Klavan was beaten twice in action against Burnley, but the hope is that he would improve. Leicester under 21 Ben Chilwell was linked with a move to Liverpool but they couldn’t meet the fee of the Foxes.

The much criticised Alberto Moreno has the pace and stamina to run the entire field, however there are other elements of his game that requires an upgrade. He fits into the football philosophy Klopp wrote in his book about his time at Dortmund. Klopp defended him a lot, but eventually dropped him for James Milner. The role of Jordan Henderson in the 4-3-3 formation doesn’t seem like he is best suited for the role.

The return of Joel Matip, partnering with Dejan Lovren has been decent. Emre Can’s return could offer more in the middle, but Liverpool need more work to reach their true potential this season. There are no European games, so the team has no shot but to give the Premier League and other domestic engagements a real chase.
